About the Open Space Plan Committee

Open space, recreation, and conservation planning are critical functions of town government. This is especially true in a town like Milton, which prizes the natural beauty, ecological diversity, and enjoyment derived from its public open space resources. Without such a plan, it is difficult to effectively balance the town's housing and economic development goals with sufficient consideration for open space and conservation issues. Beyond the fundamental issue of good planning practice, there are several reasons why now is the time to update the Town's Open Space and Recreation Plan.

  • The Town's Open Space and Recreation Plan hasn't been updated since 2006
  • An open space plan helps policy makers consider the Town's open space needs in their decision-making
  • An updated open space plan makes the Town eligible for recreation and conservation grant funding
  • An open space plan will help the Town decide the best use for publicly owned land
