On April 3, 2012 the Town of Milton's Department of Public Works will soon have a brand new set of aerial imagery producing digital orthophotographs of the entire town. The new aerial imagery was flown on April 3, 2012 at a resolution of 3 inches per pixel. Along with the imagery a complete database of geospatial or GIS data layers known as planimetric data will be derived from the flyover imagery products. This project will enhance and add to the Department of Engineering/GIS vast library of GIS data layers currently available on the GIS Online Mapper Tool recently launched by the department.
The 3 inches resolution aerial imagery is a great improvement over the existing 12 inches resolution imagery that was flown by USGSin 2008 and made available through MassGIS. Below are examples of aerial imagery from both the 2012 and 2008 flyovers.
GIS Base Map Development Project - New Data Layers
In the spring of 2012 the Town of Milton Engineering Department contracted to have an aerial flyover and development of GIS based Planimetric data layers.
The flyover took place on April 3, 2012 which produced the following new datasets:new town-wide 4-band color and CIR orthophotography.
- New town-wide detailed 40-scale planimetrics and 1-foot contours
- New town-wide 4-band color and CIR orthophotography (3" resolution)
